A.A. Kroon

Drs. Andrea A. Kroon (1968) is working as an art historian for Kroon & Wagtberg Hansen in The Hague, The Netherlands. She has specialized in visual arts, interior decoration and design between 1850 and 1950, and has been studying the material culture of freemasonry and the cultural heritage of western esoteric currents since 1993.
She currently combines working for various museum, exhibition and publication projects with her PhD research on the subject of 'The influence of Dutch freemasons on the cultural and commercial exchange with Asia (1734-1853), and the material culture resulting from this exchange' (University of Leiden, Fac. of Art History).

Since 2001 Kroon is chairwoman of the OVN, Foundation for the advancement of the academic study of the history of freemasonry in the Netherlands (Stichting ter bevordering van wetenschappelijk Onderzoek naar de geschiedenis van de Vrijmetselarij in Nederland). The Foundation provides research grants to students and scholars, and participates in heritage projects. Kroon is currently editor the first book to appear on the methodology of art history in relation to the study of Western esotericism, together with ESSWE-member Marty Bax. The working title of the book is 'The Initiated Artist. Methodological Introduction into Western Esotericism in Art, 18th-20th Century'.
