Marco Toti, born in 1976 in Rome, is a doctoral student in "History of Religions" at the University of Messina. He collaborates with the chair of "History of Religions" at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (prof. E. Montanari, author of the recent "La fatica del cuore. Saggio sull'ascesi esicasta", Jaca Book, Milano 2003). He took his degree on the topic "Techniques of hesychastic prayer" (with a two-months period of study at the Institut de Théologie Orthodoxe "S. Serge", Paris); this degree is currently being printed ("Aspetti storico-religiosi del metodo di orazione esicasta", L'Aquila 2006, Japadre (same publishing house of the review "Studi e materiali di storia delle religioni", founded by R. Pettazzoni in 1925)). His fields of research are related to comparative mysticism (hesychasm, sufism, yoga, zen), hesychasm of the 13th-14th century (with particular reference to the anthropological significance of the "psychophysical techniques"), relationships between Christianity and ancient Greek philosophy, A. Scrima and and Romanian hesychasm of the 1940s, new religious movements. His articles are being currently printed for "Studi e materiali di storia delle religioni" and "Oriente cristiano", and he is preparing some speeches in scientific congresses in Italy and abroad.
